Today was the 100th consecutive day that I have run one or more miles!
As I completed a two mile run this morning, I took a moment to reflect on the run I did on day one. We were back in England at my parents home and I ran to the former post office near their home and back.
I still have a long way to go, but I have come so far. I can now run trails and speeds and distances I don’t believe I could have 100-days ago. This is great progress. This is the most consistent I have ever been at woking toward achieving a goal.
As you may already know, my goal is to get my weight down to 160-pounds by December 31. People always like to say how that’s too skinny. But in a world where overweight is the new normal and obesity is the new fat, I am currently unwilling to listen to such naysayers.
From all that I have read, 160-pounds for a six-foot, medium-framed male is not unhealthy. If I get there and think I went a little too far, it won’t be hard to rectify.
I got down to the mid 170’s back in 2017 and I still had plenty of excess weight kicking around my waist, which in large part drove my decision to set the goal of 160.
Either way. that’s my goal and I am not deviating. We are always tempted to deviate from our goals which often leads to us completely abandoning them, only to look back on another year to realize we failed to accomplish our goals for yet another year.
I am determined to not let this happen this year. Running is only one component of what I am doing to make progress toward my health goal. But it is helping. Not every run is easy. Some days my legs and knees hurt. Some times I find it a mental struggle to get the legs running. But I made it to this great milestone! Here’s to the next 100-days!
P.S. I use an app called streaks to track my habits. I really like it, and it feels good to see the progress every day I record.
