Shortly after midnight yesterday, Cassandra turned to me in bed and asked if she was a bad person.
That’s a difficult question to answer.
We are all bad in the sense that we all sin and fall short of the glory of god but that doesn’t nullify our divine identity or diminish our potential, our progress and brand us a ‘bad’ person.
I thought for a moment, and then told my beautiful wife that I wasn’t the right person to answer that question.
When I was in school, whenever I had a problem I couldn’t solve or a question I couldn’t answer, I’d ask the teacher.
Life is filled with questions and problems that seem too difficult for us to answer on our own. It’s at this point that instead of turning to google we should turn to God. No amount of internet searching will answer the most important and pressing questions of our soul.
Jesus is the ultimate teacher. We have some of his teachings recorded in scripture that we ought to diligently study. But each of us also has the ability to ask him our most pressing and difficult questions whenever we need help.
I was not qualified to answer my wife’s question last night. I could have attempted to offer some soothing words but they wouldn’t have provided what she truly needed.
I am a poor substitute for Jesus.
P.S. I personally don’t think my wife is a bad person.
