I fail to appreciate my wife as much I should. It’s something of a bad habit of mine to consistently fail at seeing so much of the good that she is and does.
Let me share two stories.
We’ve always tried to make a budget each month as a couple yet we have failed in almost every instance to stick to it perfectly. This has been somewhat vexing to me over the years.
Many years ago we had a massive argument over buying new deodorant. Cass wanted some new sticks and I said it wasn’t in the budget. Looking back I believe we were both wrong in how we approached the situation and each other.
On occasion I have been accusatory in my words towards Cassandra’s attitude to our family finances. This of course is wrong.
A few days ago, Cassandra came home with a bag of shoes for our children. We’re still living off our rapidly depleting savings whilst I look for suitable sources of income.
My immediate knee-jerk was to wonder why she’d spend $35 when our economics are getting tighter. But after hearing a great message at church on Sunday about gratitude, I reflected on those shoes and had several thoughts.
First was that our children need shoes. It wasn’t like Cassandra had purchased something unnecessary.
I am so thankful to be married to a woman and to have children who are happy, excited and content to wear shoes purchased at Goodwill.
I’m thankful for those people who sent those shoes to goodwill in really good condition so that we could find them.
I’m grateful that Cassandra doesn’t feel like she needs to buy new and expensive things to be happy. What a lucky husband and father I am.
How blessed I am to be married to someone who doesn’t have a spending habit or is bad with money. Although I can get stressed about our budget, I’m grateful to have a companion who makes living within our means possible and easy to do. Thank you Cass!
