Close to our home is very large and beautiful city park that also contains a small fishing lake that frequently has people catching fish at.
Whenever we go, we cannot make it round the lake without our eldest son going to each person fishing and asking to see their catch and other questions that interest him.
Today he spent, unaccompanied, a good 45-minutes talking to a small group of guys fishing. I sat close enough to see him but far enough away to let him spread his wings.
During that time he was able to help reel in a small fish, handle several other fish and learn new things about fishing. An experience that made his day!
And all of this happened because he was interested and then willing to ask questions. Our son is hopefully learning that those who ask, often receive.
It leads me to thinking about the opportunities and experiences I am missing because I have lost too much of that childlike inquisitiveness and have stopped asking questions.
Not every time we ask will the answer be yes, but if we never ask, the answer will always be no!
