It is very easy for us to see the flaws, oddities and imperfections in someone else’s life, their relationships and life choices.
But what does it benefit us to do this?
I love how Jesus asked us why we consider the mote in someone else’s eye but not the beam in our own.
Sometimes we can be so painfully unaware of our own flaws, quirks and oddities. But my primary role is to focus, find and refine my own character, not to do this for others.
Who am I to judge another when I walk imperfectly? How can I help someone else when I am so blind?
Of course I am to do my part to help others, but I should approach the endeavor cautiously and only when asked. Because ultimately Christ is the healer and helper, not me, he’s the one who can see clearly.
So if we want to help people, the surest way is to take them to the great physician. Even if the flaws of another really cause problems for us, the surest way to remedy is to help that person come to Jesus. He’s the one who can teach, reveal and remove the beams and motes in our eyes.
I love your insights. I really agree with this as well. But, what do you do if the other person, who is causing the problems, doesn't want your help? I have prayed for the person. I KNOW I have problems. I KNOW I need to keep working to improve myself. I am painfully aware! But when there is a person who purposefully causes you pain....it is hard!
