If one of my children were lost

I handed our son, who is nine, the Bible and asked him if he’d read Matthew 18 and choose a verse to share with the family and a short thought.
He read, “if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.”
He then shared how when we leave Christ’s church we are like sheep who have wandered but that he comes to find us.
I then asked why Jesus would come to find us. They replied that it was because Jesus loved us.
Most of us shrug our shoulders when something is lost, especially when we have lots of something.
But Christ cares about the one, even when he has billions. He never shrugs his shoulders.
I wouldn’t shrug my shoulders if I lost one of my own children. I would leave the four and go looking until I found them.
Parenthood is perhaps the closest we come to feeling what our heavenly parents and Jesus must feel about their children.
I think we all are the lost sheep at some point on our journey through life, but Christ comes calling and if we allow him, he will carry us on his shoulders back to the fold.
