It’s easy to believe when life is good, blessings are flowing and suffering is minimal.
On Sunday I had the privilege of teaching a lesson at Church where we discussed faith and several people shared difficult personal experiences.
As I listened and looked, I observed beautiful faith. The kind of faith I believe Jesus is asking of us.
I don’t believe Christ expects us to know everything. But he does want us to trust him. It’s easy to trust Jesus when all he is asking us to do is attend our church meetings every Sunday.
But what about when he asks us to let go of our fear, pain or doubt? It’s not so easy to kneel when a heart is breaking and it’s much harder to trust when we can’t see the end or the reason for our suffering or afflictions.
Eventually, I believe our following Jesus will lead us into our own personal gardens and our own crucifixions and it is there, in those moments that our faith goes from superficial to genuine.
Are we willing to say “thy will be done” and drink the butter cup if that is what is required? Will we keep our covenants even when the answer is no, or not yet?
I am thankful for those who are still showing up even after the hardships of life who in sharing their stories greatly enriched my life and all those who heard.
