This past week I had the privilege of spending many hours on a sandy Devon beach damming and diverting water, digging holes and building sandcastles with my children.
By the end of each day our small section of beach was torn up and well used. Along the way we had a lot of fun and of course the occasional fight. Which is to be expected when you have two imperfect parents and five lively children.
But as I watched the tide come in on our final night of fun and wash away all of our holes and heaps and return the beach to a condition as though we had never been there, it got me thinking.
Sometimes by the end of a day we can feel like our section of life is a little torn up and well used. We’ve probably had fun and perhaps even a few fights. Life is beautiful and each day contains moments we ought never to lose or forget. But there are also a lot of things that are inconsequential and fleeting which ought to be washed away each day by our choosing to let go, move on, and begin anew as though the previous day had never happened.
Yesterdays disagreement with a spouse, friend or child doesn’t need to be the starting point today, nor do the challenges or disappointments of today need to be our starting point for tomorrow.
Absolutely love this idea and need to apply it every day! 💖
