We should, in every instance, strive to protect the innocent. But we can, and should do this without demeaning and dehumanizing perpetrators.
Even the most heinous among us are still beloved sons or daughters of heavenly parents. They need Jesus as much as I need him.
This isn’t to say we condone or justify the nasty, evil actions of others. We should protect and defend the innocence and virtue of women, children and men everywhere.
But Jesus’ most stern rebukes were often leveled at the hypocrites.
Just because my sins and shortcomings on the surface may seem less severe than another’s, this doesn’t make me good, justified or worthy enough to cast stones of final judgement upon another.
And it certainly doesn’t give me license to demean, disparage or dehumanize anyone else.
I’ve been asked to love my enemy, pray for others and forgive everyone. Yes I will do my part to protect the vulnerable, the innocent and the virtuous, but Jesus has asked me to leave the rest up to him.
