There’s the old saying that says quit while you’re ahead. I’m not sure it’s great advice for anywhere other than a casino.
If you are like me, it’s not quitting whilst we are ahead that’s the problem.
It’s that we quit before we even get started. If you are anything like me you probably have a head that swirls with ideas, dreams and aspirations.
This is one of my favorite things about being human. Our ability to think, imagine and create is amazing. But too often those bright and brilliant ideas never become anything more than the thoughts between our ears.
Before we even get started we’ve curated a list of all the reasons why our idea is bad or wouldn’t work or why we aren’t good enough. And so before we even get started we quit.
I tried to do that yesterday. Several months back I started thinking about and exploring the idea of getting my real estate license. I think buying, remodeling and selling our first home and then buying our second sparked something for me. I find real estate interesting.
So just before we left England I purchased the required pre-licensing but yesterday as I sat at the library I started pursuing other ideas, having negative thoughts and thinking about refunding my course fees.
What the heck! I was quitting again before I even got started! Now I can’t predict the future. I don’t know if 3-years from now I’ll still be a realtor, but having caught myself going down the same old road, I am determined to see through the getting of my license and giving it an honest and genuine effort.
