If you feel like I do, a brief reading of daily news headlines leaves you feeling pretty bleak. All we seem to see and read about these days is nations bickering, fighting, and feuding.
In a world where the internet allows anyone and everyone to become a self-proclaimed expert, we hear politicians, business leaders and academics all touting their solutions to all of our worlds most complex problems.
Now I don't want to sound like a hypocrite, but I can't help but feel that the vast majority of the voices in the world are wrong. They actually have no clue how to solve this problem or that problem.
We hear the choir of voices, all vying for our attention and approval and we are perhaps too quick to pick sides whilst forgetting that the solutions to almost all our problems were provided two thousand years ago.
I believe that one of the great plagues of our generation is stagnation.
Stagnation is characterized by a lack of activity, growth or development. And whilst we could talk in circles about self-development and self-improvement, neither of these things, nor a great many others will remedy the great ills found in our world.
I offer it as my opinion that one of the greatest causes of our problems in the world stems from an increasing majority of people who have stagnated in their movement toward God and his son Jesus Christ. Too many are no longer striving to develop Christlike attributes such as kindness, charity, humility, meekness.
Increasingly, even mentioning the name of Jesus Christ results in mockery. Christians are coined naive, escapists, delusional or worse. But anyone who has ever tried to be a good Christian knows that such talk comes from the lips of the uninformed.
Christ was the perfect example, he modeled the kind of life we should strive to live. We don't need more public policy, policeman or protests. What we need is a spiritual reawakening. We need more men and women to come unto Christ, not just in word, but by action.
It is humility, not pride, that will heal the world. Meekness, not malice, will change the world. virtue, not promiscuity will transform the world. Why do so few see it?
2000 years ago, Christ showed us, and told us the answers and he entreated everyone to follow him. But instead of listening and progressing to higher and nobler plains, we instead seem adamant to ignore and abandon not only the teachings, but even the very son of god who spake them.
One of Christ's titles is physician. The people of the world need to be healed, but that can, and will only happen as we each visit the doctor, and accept and apply his treatment plan for us. Until then, we can only expect to remain sick, and get sicker.
