I don’t hate Santa.
But sometimes I wonder if we have allowed him to steal Christmas. I’ve joked that Santa and Satan have the same letters just rearranged.
Now I don’t know if Santa is Satan, but it’s interesting to consider that the devils grand objective is to distract and draw away our attention from Jesus. And in many ways, Santa steals the show and distracts us from the true meaning of Christmas, which is that Jesus, the literal son of God was born to save all mankind.
Satan knows that if he can cause us to take our focus off of Jesus, we all start to sink just like Peter did.
This is why I have not taught my children to “believe” in Santa. He’s not actually real! It’s a fun tradition that I’m happy to indulge in a little, but I cannot in good conscience teach them to have faith that a man with flying reindeer will bring them a gift on Christmas Eve.
Instead, I continue to help them refocus and develop their faith in Jesus Christ. Because he is real! He’s the great gift giver, not Santa. My children don’t need hoverboards and cameras, they need the gifts of hope, peace and joy.
When my children grow up, I want them to be like Jesus, not Santa. I want them to give gifts like Jesus and to love like Jesus.
Merry Christmas
