Who doesn’t love fast shipping. We can order just about anything and have it delivered to any address in two-days or less. But there is one thing that can’t be delivered in two-days; the accomplishment of our big goals.
We all have big goals, whether that’s losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, writing a book, learning a language, instrument or skill, becoming a subject expert, having a strong marriage and healthy relationships with children and friends, starting a blog, building a business, becoming exceptional in a sport or game, creating a side hustle, beginning a non-profit, increasing faith or building wealth… the list could go on.
Achieving our biggest goal will take time and consistency. There is no two-day delivery when it comes to accomplishing great things. There are no secrets, shortcuts or hacks that will get us there.
To achieve even our biggest goals, what we need to do is identify the fundamentals that underpin what we want to achieve and then consistently do those fundamentals by taking small, sustainable steps every day until we arrive at our desired destination.
As we ascend toward our goal we will invariably face obstacles and challenges that will instill doubt, cause discouragement or distract us. We will be tempted at such points to retreat and regress back to where we started.
I think many of us get stuck in this start-stop loop. We eagerly commence on achieving a goal, only to hit a barrier and quit. It’s not easy.
How many of us have started something but gave up because of doubt, discouragement or distractions? We all have.
I have done this with my writing many times. I start my blog with high aspirations of making a difference, of inspiring others and providing for my family, only to get discouraged when I don’t see immediate results and to doubt my abilities and wonder who am I to believe I can make it as a writer or make a difference in other peoples lives.
I am in the early stages of trying to change this. I have been more consistent in writing, reading and exercise than I have ever been in my entire life. But I have many days of doubt, discouragement and distraction. But I am doing my best to push through those pain barriers and keep going, trusting that if I keep going, keep taking small sustainable steps, and keep doing the fundamentals, eventually I will arrive at my desired destination.
I have a question, what is your big goal? And how can I help you achieve it?
