To grow quickly is to die quickly.

It’s been said that that which grows quickly dies quickly and I feel like we can see this idea play out in nature all around us.
Often the plants and animals which have the shortest germination and gestation periods, that grow to full size quickly, often don’t live as long as those who take longer. For example, flowers versus trees.
I think this idea is equally true with regards to human development. We seem increasingly obsessed with quick fixes to our biggest problems, but quick fixes rarely work.
They are appealing because generally humans are lazy and we seek for the easiest options. But lasting growth and real change takes time. It requires consistency. Progress will always require pain. We can waste so much precious time pursuing quick fixes when we could just hunker down to the grind of doing the small and simple things consistently regardless of our mood and independent of the chorus of opposing and confusing opinions of others.
If change is what we really desire, whether it be in our health, our finances or our relationships, we need to stop looking for the quick fix solutions and instead commit to the fundamentals of the accomplishment we hope to achieve.
