I felt genuinely excited to see the welcome to West Virginia sign yesterday. Not only because it meant we had just two hours of our six hour drive left, but because it’s the place we’ve chosen to call home for now.
I’ve noticed that people have bad things to say about everywhere. When we lived in Idaho, Utah, and now West Virginia, we’ve had people say horrible, untrue or misleading things about each one.
It’s easy to find and complain about the downsides because there is no such thing as a perfect house, a perfect city, a perfect state or even a perfect country. But I do believe we can create perfect homes!
A home isn’t so much about where I live but how I live. I can’t control many, if any or the things that swirl around outside my house but I do have a greater ability to shape the environment that exists inside my home.
An environment where everyone feels safe, loved, secure. Bricks and mortar or a better location can never provide these, only I can, for me and my family.
Anyway, it feels good to be back home in our house in West Virginia.
