Most of us are familiar with the game of would you rather where you come up with two choices, serious or silly, and ask people to decide which they’d prefer.
My brother in law Scott often comes up with the best and funniest options and it’s always a hoot whenever he’s around.
This isn’t a funny would you rather, but if you had to choose between being wealthy or being healthy, which would you choose?
In a culture fixated on stock prices and the economy, it’s easy to believe that wealth is the cardinal goal of life.
But what use is a fully funded retirement account if we are too sick or disease ridden to enjoy it?
No amount of ‘passive’ income will compensate for a body that’s riddled with cancer, cardiovascular disease or obesity.
I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t have a sensible financial plan for today and the future. Or that we shouldn’t save, invest and build wealth. These aren’t wrong things to do.
But hopefully in our pursuit of economic prosperity we don’t neglect our health.
